The Kogama Situation

TL;DR:

Neither I nor my game Voxelphalia are related to the scam project Kogama. Based on the available information, this appears to be the work of a person from Brazil who has previously been exposed for running similar schemes.

What happened?

My game Voxelphalia was used without my involvement. Most likely it was only used to pass Steam moderation.

After that, the person behind the scheme renamed the game to Kogama, a title that is popular among children, especially in Brazil and several other countries.

He claims I worked with him and even gave him access to my Steamworks account so he could upload the scam. This is a complete lie. I don’t even have an account there!!! And even if I did, I would never give anyone access to my Steamworks account, especially for something like this. He also claims I left the team due to “personal issues.” This also never happened. I was never part of any team or project with him.

My guess, shared by others, is that the goal of this operation was to attract as many children as possible to the Discord server. And perhaps install a cryptominer on their computers…

Attempt to impersonate me

About a week before the Kogama situation became public, a Discord user named lotterytea (later charlotterytea) sent me a friend request.

This account used the Voxelphalia icon as its profile picture, placed my website’s logo on its banner and linked directly to my website. Most likely this was done to create the appearance of being associated with me, possibly to make Steam verification easier. I’m not a widely known public figure, so impersonating me might have seemed like a low-risk.

At first I assumed it was someone I knew trying to troll me.

Later, he blocked me. However, it quickly became clear that the situation was much stranger. People I know wouldn’t normally behave like that, especially not while paying for Discord Nitro and boosting a random server just for a prank.

After a short exchange, I was blocked again without any real answers.

Investigating the account

Since I was left with more questions than answers, I started digging into who might be behind the charlotterytea account.

About a week later, during a stream, information surfaced suggesting that the person behind it could be someone previously exposed for similar behavior - a user known as SparklingPishy

Connection with charlotterytea

The link between SparklingPishy and charlotterytea is suggested by several pieces of evidence. First, we have a screenshot showing multiple alternative accounts:

Also, I was banned from their discord server after I went into voice chat (without even saying anything) and asked in #general - “yo wtf is that”.

To sum up, I’m not the first person this mentally ill scammer has targeted. Numerous cases have already been documented of him attempting similar scams, using identity theft, manipulation, and misleading statements about other developers.

Such actions undermine trust in the independent and open source development community, especially in free projects. When people use open source projects or impersonate developers for fraudulent purposes, it raises suspicions among others about legitimate developers who simply want to share their work.

update 0.8 bringed the most waited bugfix: ore generation!
